Not quite as much talking today but still amazing!
I spent a lot of time at panels actually. Doing stuff like listening to an interview with Ted Thomas, the son of Frank Thomas, and an interview with a man who has worked at Disney for 60 years. Gosh their stories were amazing! All of the stories of actually interacting with Disney... I was so peached just listening to them talk! It really just makes Disney seem even more like just a regular cool guy!
Other than that I spent a lot of time talking specifically to storyboard artists and Disney artists. They gave me some interesting pointers, like 'it's okay to let anime influence your art as long as you have other things influencing it as well' which is the greatest thing I've ever heard since I started by drawing anime and I've had a hard time trying to purge the style from my art.
I talked to a few pro storyboarders that I'm planning on showing my animatic to tomorrow. The one works for Dreamworks and the other works for Nickelodeon, and I'll probably hunt down BlueSky's storyboard person and show them too, but I feel like I made a pretty good impression on the first two. The guy from Dreamworks has fabulous hair oh my gosh haha!
I also talked to the guy that's been boarding for the Simpsons for 20 years and gosh he was so fascinating! And amazing! He also had really great advice about actually drawing boards and about about just drawing in-particular. I think I talked to him for like 45 minutes, cuz he was just super chill and super encouraging and nice about everything. He was probably one of the most interesting people I've talked to at CTN.
For the most part I feel like today was super successful though. I went to a panel on comedy and learned how to set up funny shots, so I feel like I have more stuff to put into my short to make it even better. This whole weekend has been just fantastic. I've seriously felt so comfortable just chatting with all of the people and everyone is super friendly and such... I just hope the real industry is like that!
